Ian Howell gained an accounting qualification, became a registered tax agent and first joined the photographic industry in 1974 as the accountant for Australia’s largest professional photographic laboratory dealing exclusively with wedding and portrait photographers
In the same year Ian joined the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and for 12 years served as the State President of the Victorian Division of AIPP
In recognition of his service to the photographic industry Ian was awarded the New Zealand Professional Photographers Association Silver Spool Award in 1983 and in 2005 the Australian Institute of Professional Photography awarded him Claude McCarthy Award
As a photographer Ian has won a total of 19 Silver plus one Silver with Distinction at the annual AIPP National Print awards, he has been a guest speaker at four national photographic conventions and has spent many years mentoring studio owners throughout Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and America
Ian purchased John Travers Photography in 1986 and his dedication to service, his attention to detail and his drive to maintain high standards has been a hallmark of his management of the studio and the attitude of his staff
Jo Howell aaipp BA Sci ( photography )
Jo Howell graduated from RMIT university in 2001 then set out to see the world accumulating a wealth of visual, emotional and life defining experiences which has enabled her to grow into the highly creative photographer she is today.
Jo has taught in Japan, worked as a photographer on the ski fields of Whistler, spent several months as a manager of a fishing lodge on the French River in Ontario, combined tour leading and photography throughout Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and China, gained her dive masters certificate in Borneo, spent nine months working as the tour leader and photographic mentor for a photographic safari company in Africa then for two years operated her own wedding portrait studio in scenic Knysna, South Africa.
In 2010 Jo returned to Melbourne and joined John Travers Photography as the main photographer in the studio
She joined the AIPP and established her creative credentials by winning one Gold and fourteen Silver awards in the past five judging’s of the AIPP annual National Print awards
Jo’s images have been selected for the front covers of travel magazines, she loves wildlife and the beauty of nature, she has a great eye for composition and colour and her fabulous ( and sometimes outrageous ) personality results in her being readily accepted by all those with whom she works.
Daniel Berniard is a multi award winning wedding and portrait photographer with 28 years experience and a host of awards to his name
2009 AIPP Victoria Professional Photographer of the Year, 2010 WPPI Grand Award winner and 2011 Victorian AIPP Sports Photographer of the Year are his latest awards and his images have been selected for display in the Professional Photographers of America prestigious Loan Collection and Disney’s famous Epcot Centre

Stephanie Barlow studies photography at NMIT she is another member of the team who has experienced success at the annual Nation Print Awards judging of the AIPP

As well as being a fine photographer Steph shines as our most competent digital image retoucher and she makes many a customer happy as she applies her unique skills to fixing the concerns a client may have about their image
Michael is the newest member of the core photography staff at John Travers Photography and he brings a new set of skills acquired over seven years working as a staff photographer for Fairfax Media
In addition to his normal photographic duties Michael is responsible for the preparation and despatch of client orders as well as the updating of the images and words which feature on our social media pages

Throughout the year we call upon a pool of contract photographers to help when more than five photographers are required to meet the assignments we have on a particular day
Chris Hillard, Vicki Bell, Kay Wright, Tom Paterson, Gorge Polak, Colin Ewington and Barbara Dewsnap are our regular “on call” photographers and with this talented team of 11 professional photographers we are able to provide a highly competent and totally reliable service with every assignment
